Bristol Stalwart Joins Cardiff Blues On Loan
Long serving Bristol Wing Ryan Edwards will join Cardiff Blues for the rest of the season. Edwards enjoyed a brief spell at the club in 2018 and will hope to get some good game time as Cardiff hit a crucial stage of the season. The Blues are without a number of backs due to injury and International call ups and Edwards will help alleviate that struggle.
Missing Cardiff Backs:
- Owen Lane
- Hallam Amos
- Matthew Morgan
- Aled Summerhill
- Harri Millard
- Josh Adams
Edwards was born in Newport and came through the Dragons academy before studying in Bristol. He’s made 82 appearences for Bristol over 8 seasons with the club but has struggled for game time this season due to form of other players in the Bears squad.
What They Said:
Cardiff Blues head coach John Mulvihill: “We’ll get Hallam and hopefully Aled back within the next few weeks but we’re still a bit light in the back three and Ryan gives us a little bit more depth there.
“He is an accomplished and experienced player, who is fast, deceptively strong and abrasive. We look forward to welcoming him back to our set-up this week and he will be available for selection against Connacht.”
Edwards will link up with Cardiff Blues tomorrow as they begin preparations for their trip to Galway on February 15.
Bristol Bears Director Of Rugby, Pat Lam:
“This is a good opportunity for Ryan to get competitive game-time and showcase what he is capable of following his return from injury,”
“We’re happy to support this chance for him to go out and play regular rugby at Cardiff Blues, with an option to recall him at any time.
