Dragons Sign Fiji Prop Doge

Dragons have signed Fijian International Tighthead Prop Mesake Doge. The 28 year old started both recent fixtures against New Zealand, taking his international tally to four caps. He has been a regular for French Top 14 side Brive, following a spell at Romanian Side Timosoara Saracens. Doge will bring scrum stability and some carrying power around the field.

Dean Ryan, Director of Dragons Rugby: “We’re pleased to sign Mesake and look forward to him linking up with us in the coming weeks.

“He’s impressed in the recent Test series with the All Blacks and is determined to come to Wales and develop even further and make a big impression with us.”

Crusaders In Talks With Sprint Ace

The Crusaders are in preliminary talks with New Zealand Sprint Ace Eddie Osei-Nketia following his show exclusion from the NZ Olympic Sprint Team. These are very early stages of discussions, but the star is open to a change of sports, following the Olympics news. He played Rugby in his youth and was a prolific try scorer at schoolboy level. Osei-Nketia has run a 10.12s 100m time this year, leaving him just 0.01s shy of the New Zealand record, held by his father Gus Nketia. His raw pace and power could see him excel in a top class rugby environment. He would need to be trained up and go through the pathways, like any player, but the Crusaders could be the perfect place for him to do that. RugbyPass are reporting that a Crusaders spokesperson has acknowledged that they have had preliminary discussions with Osei-Nketia’s management and it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Reds Sign Two More To New Contracts

The Queensland Reds have been busy signing their stars to new contracts of late and now two more have been announced. Back Row duo Liam Wright and Angus Scott-Young have signed through to 2022. Club Captain Wright made his debut in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength. Scott-Young is a serious grafter and allows players like Wright to shine, through his hard work and effort. Wright and Scott-Young have played alongside each other since they were teenagers at Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane and have gone-on to achieve much success together. They both brought up their 50th caps last season and will be looking for many more in the next.

Liam Wright:

“I love playing in Queensland. I’m excited to keep chasing success with this group and I’m hungry for more time in the maroon jersey alongside good mates,”

Two Sign Deals With The Waratahs

Alex Newsome and Mark Nawaqanitawase have signed new deals to stay with the Aussie side. Newsome has signed a one year extension to his current deal and Nawaqanitawase has signed a two year deal, locking him in through to 2023. Both are talented outside backs, who have brought a lot to this side over recent seasons. Newsome, born and bred in Glen Innes in country NSW, ventured west to start his Super Rugby career making his debut for the Western Force in 2017, representing the Perth side on 13 occasions. Nawaqanitawase has had meteoric rise over the past 18 months, graduating from the Waratahs Gen Blue Academy to the main side, including scoring a memorable double on his Super Rugby debut against the Crusaders in 2020. Incoming coach Darren Coleman will be happy to have these two on board.

Alex Newsome:

“I’m a NSW boy, born and bred, and incredibly proud to represent my home state. This year has been probably the toughest year of my career I’ve had to endure, and probably is the same for most of the guys in the squad.

“We’re desperate to turn things around next year and I feel like I’ve got a lot of unfinished business here with this team, so I’m really excited to re-commit.”

James Malcolm Re-Commits To The Seawolves

Glasgow born Hooker James Malcolm has signed a new deal with the Seattle Seawolves. The Hooker was on some seriously good form towards the end of the season for the Seawolves. He is a robust carrier, with an eye for the try line. The beauty with a player like James Malcolm is that they are good now, but the potential is limitless. He has a strong set piece game and the athleticism needed as a Hooker in the modern game. Malcolm had been due to play for the Dallas Jackals this season, but due to their withdrawal he headed north to the Seawolves and it seems to have been a great fit.

The former Glasgow man had potential to be a great signing, due to his track record in Scotland and England. Malcolm, although uncapped by Scotland, has been called into their Senior squad before, for the 2018 Six Nations. The former Glasgow Warriors and Ayr man now has the security of a two year contract, through to 2024, to allow him to continue his development. The Seawolves will be back strong next year and they can build their set piece around the likes of James Malcolm.

Seawolves Head Coach And Director Of Rugby Allen Clarke:

“Based on his performances in the 2021 season, it was an easy decision to contract James on a three year deal. He has all the fundamentals to become a top quality hooker with his consistently good positional and core skills, as well as game understanding. He compliments this skill set with the warrior mentality needed for the position.

We’re delighted James has committed to the Seawolves family as he shares our passion and drive for success!”

Bedford Sign Leicester Tigers Prop

Bedford Blues have signed Leicester Tigers Prop Osman Dimen, for the 2021/22 Championship season. The former Wasps Academy and Loughborough University man is a player with huge potential. The 22 year old is 6 foot 1 and powerfully built. He is still a work in progress, but has shown his potential for the Tigers’ A team and has the build and power to be a superb Prop forward. The former Kickboxing Champ is athletic and powerful around the field. Bedford Blues have a reputation for developing talent and this looks like the perfect move for Dimen. He will get game time and have a chance to develop in a great environment.

Osman Dimen:

“Bedford was a no brainer for me. Having not had the chance to play in well over a year due to injury, the prospect of joining such a prestigious club to showcase and develop my game was something I couldn’t turn down.

“Bedford’s reputation for developing world class players speaks for itself. Mike and Alex have created an unbelievable environment, I’m sure training will be challenging and fast paced which will do wonders for my game. I’m very proud to have the chance to show what I’m about here.”

Fagerson Signs New Glasgow Warriors Deal

British & Irish Lions Tighthead Prop Zander Fagerson has signed a new long term contract at Glasgow Warriors. The 25 year old has become one of the most important players for both club and country. His performances for this resurgent Scotland side have propelled him into the Lions squad and his good form has continued for the prestigious touring team. This will be music to the ears of Glasgow fans.

Zander Fagerson:

“I’m very happy to be continuing at Glasgow for the foreseeable future,”

“Glasgow is an incredibly special place for my family and I and it’s become our home.

“I’m excited to keep developing as a player over the next couple of seasons and to help this team to achieve our potential, both individually and collectively. The signings Glasgow has made, both with coaches and players mean we have a very exciting future ahead of us both on and off the field.

“The culture and environment at Scotstoun is unlike anywhere else, it’s a truly special club. I’d also like to thank Scottish Rugby for giving me the opportunity to continue to advance my career from within Scotland, and I’m going to continue to give my all for both club and country every time I’m selected.”
