Jaco Van Der Walt Signs New Edinburgh Deal

Edinburgh and Scotland Fly Half Jaco Van Der Walt has signed a new contract, at the capital side. The 26 year old is the latest in a string of Edinburgh players, to sign contract extensions, in recent weeks. The South African born Fly Half has been superb, since signing from the Lions, in 2017.

Jaco Van Der Walt:

“I have fallen in love with this city. My wife and I have made it our home and we’re delighted to have committed to spending our future together in Edinburgh.

“It’s been absolutely brilliant, and my family and the club have played a huge role in supporting my wife and I and encouraging us to chase our dreams.

“Playing here has definitely tested my game. I’ve really had to develop my skills. I still have a lot more to learn about the game and I’m excited to grow and develop those skills with Edinburgh.

“The club is in a good place and we’re building a really strong side. It’s important we continue playing the game we know, stay positive and work hard.

“For Edinburgh Rugby to have its own home ground is so important and hugely exciting for all of us – players and supporters.

“It gives us an identity and to have the fans come back to watch our games in our own home ground will be great.

Waratahs Appoint Jake Gordon As Captain

The Waratahs have named 27 year old Jake Gordon, as their Captain for 2021. It will be his first season captaining the side, after earning 55 caps so far. He made his debut in 2017, after previously being involved with Canterbury and then Sydney University.

Jake Gordon:

“It’s a great privilege to not just represent New South Wales, but also be Captain. You look at the past captains of this team, especially the recent ones, Rob Simmons who played 100 tests for his country and Michael Hooper also the Captain of the Wallabies,”

“Growing up I thought to play a game for the Waratahs was a big achievement, and to be able to captain this great state is something I’m very proud of.

“I’m really excited about the new faces in the squad, and also some of the guys who got some experience last year, especially internationals like Will Harrison, James Ramm and Lachie Swinton.

“We’ve also got a couple of graduates from the 2019 U20 World Cup coming through, and guys like Angus Bell and Lachy Swinton who got caps and experience at the Wallaby level last year,”
