Major League Rugby Updates – 26/01/2021
Following on from the Dallas Jackals postponing their debut season, Covid-19 has taken a further toll on Major League Rugby. San Diego Legion are one of the favourites to lift the 2021 title, but now they will have to go for it from a new location. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Legion have opted to temporarily move home and play those home fixtures in Las Vegas. This will be disappointing news for Legion fans, but it is a better result than not playing at all next season. Particularly given how strong their squad is looking. They have not given any further information as to what ground they will be using, or local television partner, but further announcements will be made soon. These are strange times and there will be further impacts on this still fledgling league, but it is good to see that clubs are being sensible, with regards to the both the pandemic and the future longevity of this exciting league.
In some good news for Major League Rugby, they will have another exciting player gracing the League in 2021. Houston Sabercats have signed their third Fijian player, ahead of next season. 100kg Winger Veramu Dikidikitali has joined from Skipper Cup side Naitasiri. It is with the Fiji Warriors that Dikidikilati has truly impressed, with seven tries for the side. The Sabercats are quietly building an exciting side for 2021. They had solid foundations and some key pieces to a good side, but their recruitment has looked to fill in the gaps and add a little ‘x-factor’. It may take some time to get it all to fit in, but the signs are good for Houston.
